Almanya'nın Bremen kentinde 5-9 Kasım tarihleri arasında düzenlenen 22. Dünya Karate Şampiyonası'na İran takımı damgasını vurdu. İran Erkek Takımı, kumite dalında Almanya'yı finalde yenerek şampiyon oldu. İran Kadın Kata Takımı ise dünya üçüncüsü oldu. Şampiyonanın en heyecanlı karşılaşması İran ile Almanya arasında yaşandı. Oldukça çekişmeli geçen karşılaşmayı 3-2 kazanan İran, erkeklerde kumite dalında dünya şampiyonu oldu. Dünya şampiyonu olan İranlı sporcular yere serdikleri İran bayrağı üzerinde secdeye kapandı. İran bayrağını minderde gören yetkililer, koşar adımlarla mindere çıkıp sporcuların elinden bayrağı aldı. İranlı sporcular, ellerinden bayraklarının alınmasına tepki gösterdi. İran kadın ve erkek takımı, elde ettikleri başarıyı uzun süre minderde kutladı.
